The Dog With A Blog
It is highly likely that you currently have 1 or 2 social media accounts for your dog across the different platforms and you are wondering whether starting a pet blog might be right for you. It took me a long time to decide whether this was right for us and it really made me look at my social media accounts and what I was doing with them and just what I wanted to blog for. Now, I am at that point and have figured out that a blog is definitely right for us.
It is important to think about what you want to blog about and what value you can provide to your readers. I started Amos’s Instagram account for fun really and honestly because everyone else was doing it. He was also taking over my personal instagram feed!
I had no idea what I was doing to start with and it took me a very long time compared to a lot of other people because I just didn’t know. I am not embarrassed by that at all more so proud of what I have managed to accomplish. It has taken time and effort but along the way I have figured out how I want to use Amos’s account. I have found a way to express his voice through my posts and to creative engaging content that appeals to others and that is able to help people.
Now that takes time and patience to figure out friends.
I myself go to Instagram daily to :
- To smile
- To laugh
- To feel warm and fuzzy on the inside
- See what my friends are up to
- To be inspired by others photography
- To learn how to be more creative
- To find out how I can better take care of my dog
- To find companies that I value and want to support and make a purchase from
So I guess, have a think about why you use your Instagram? Because whatever the answer is, that will help guide you and help you go forwards.
Do I want to have an Instagram famous dog?
It has never been about fame for me. I mean wouldn't it be amazing to have an insane amount of followers but it is not why I do it.
My goal is to :
- Share Amos’s story
- To document his life
- To create lasting memories for myself and my husband
- To make new friends
- To raise awareness about the joys of owning a rescue dog
- To encourage people to consider adoption
- To show people that any dog can have an amazing life
One of the things I love about my account is the engagement that I generate on my posts. I am honestly flattered by the number of people that actually read my posts and comment on my posts. It really makes me happy and makes me feel proud because this is so far out of my comfort zone. I love replying to my comments and I committ to reply to 100% of my comments. Sometimes it takes me hours because if you take the time to write me a comment, I take the time to go and look at your account, give you some love and then I come back and reply to your initial comment on my post.
So have a think about what YOU aim to do with your Instagram account ?
Would I call myself a blogger? I guess I am because I have a blog! However I really am not a good writer and I would not class myself as one right now. But I am trying to learn. I do not come from a writing background at all which some of you may be surprised at. I am a Maths and Science girl, spent most of my childhood doing Gymnastics and for the past 11 years I have been working as a Physiotherapist. My high school English teacher would most likely be shocked at the fact that I manage to write anything at all.
As my Instagram account progressed, I noticed that I was getting asked a lot of questions about aspects of Amos’s life which I absolutely love. I also became aware that a lot of people assumed that I had had dogs growing up and that I used to love dogs which could not be further from the truth.
Now there is a limit to how much you can share on Instagram and how much you can help others and answer questions. So I started using Facebook more however it quickly became apparent that I needed another platform to allow my voice to be heard and to reach more people.
So I blog to share our journey and our story because it is essential to understand that to understand why I love Amos so much and why I do what I do. He lights up my life more than I ever could have imagined. The mere thought of him warms my heart. I never knew that a dog could have that effect on you.
I also Blog to share with you all what I have learnt along the way because looking back on our first 6 months together I would do so many things differently!!! I also hope that by sharing what I have learnt that I can help someone and really help them bond with their dog. I also encourage other people to share what they also have learnt and together we can all learn and grow.
I encourage you to continue reading my full post on Medium because it will give you further insight into why I started a Blog and help you get to know me just that little bit more.
I would also like to guide you towards 2 amazing websites and dog moms that have really helped me out more than they know and I thank them and i am loving this journey they have helped steer me towards. Thank you x
